ASHX files are often used to send a PDF file to a browser, as the ASHX file contains a link to the PDF document. When the file is downloaded, its extension is not renamed to .pdf, remaining with .ashx. If that happens, the user can rename the file extension to .pdf, which will be viewable through Adobe Reader or another PDF viewer.
