The Rich Text Format (RTF) allows users to type the text, save, and copy it into other operating systems. Unlike other text formats, the RTF format can only contain text data. In this case, the text can be typed in any other formats, and then saved in the RTF format. The format makes it easy to transfer the text from one program to another, as well as from one Windows version to another. However, the RTF format should not be confused with such formats as enriched text, Rich text or RFT-DCA from IBM.
