An AUP file (Audacity Project file) is a project file format used by Audacity, an open-source audio editing application. This file is often used for archival purposes and may be sent to other users or stored on a computer's hard drive or external storage device.

An AUP file holds all the data specific to a project, such as recorded audio and metadata. This includes information about which parts of the project are muted or soloed, what tracks are used in the project, which tracks have effects assigned to them, when each track begins and ends playing during playback, and more.

When Audacity 3.0 was released, AUP3 files replaced AUP files. You can open and save an AUP file in Audacity 3.0 or later versions of the app, but it will be converted to an AUP3 format when you do so.

You can use the Audacity app to open AUP files.
