INI or initialization files are used to store configuration and other data. They are often used by software to store settings that need to be accessed during startup or while the application is running.

In the case of Finale, INI files store preferences for how the app should run. This includes things like how many notes can be entered per measure, which key signature is used when entering notes, what font is used by default in some regions of the application, and whether or not to display an error message when a user tries to save a file over an existing one. INI files can be opened using the MakeMusic Final application.
