The .OGM (Ogg Media) format is a container for storing data streams, such as video, audio, and subtitles. It has the necessary tools to transport the file reliably, control file integrity, and minimize the amount of movement around the file during multi-stream playback (interleaving). The Ogg Media container is a third-party modification of the Ogg container, designed for free codecs supported by Xiph.Org. It also supports non-free codecs commonly used with the AVI container with DirectShow.

This file format has a specific structure. Each data stream is called a logical bitstream in ogg terms, and several logical bitstreams are combined into a physical bitstream. Each logical bitstream is split into packets. The format of the packet is determined by the codec used. Packets are divided into segments, and each segment is not exceeding 255 bytes in size. The details are combined into pages.
Each page contains no more than 255 segments (the total data size of one page never exceeds 64 KB). A packet can be included in more than one page (i.e., be more significant than 64 KB). In this case, a special flag is set for the page containing the continuation of the packet.
