A Z file (Unix Compressed File) is a compressed file created using the Unix compression algorithm. A Z file contains all of the original data from the compressed file, but it takes up less space than storing it in its original form would.
A Z file can be decompressed using the unzip command. The syntax for the unzip command is: uncompress filename.z where filename.z is the name of the file that you wish to decompress. A Z file can also be decompressed using other compression utilities.
